Pints, pigs and pure pandemonium: bar wars arrives this April

Shakespeare meets slapstick in a riotous new comedy set

There’s trouble brewing on a small rural Irish island this April, and it’s not just the stout. Bar Wars lands at Electric from April 16-18, 2026, delivering a fast-paced, laugh-out-loud theatrical experience where rivalries run deep, tourists arrive too early, and romance is anything but straightforward.

Set on the chaotic day of St. Malachy’s legendary pig race, Bar Wars follows two star-crossed lovers trying to break free from the tight-knit community that raised them. Julia dreams of staging a play. Monty dreams of Julia – though he’d rather keep that to himself.

Meanwhile, the island is gearing up to fleece… sorry, warmly welcome… the annual wave of American tourists. But when one unsuspecting Yank arrives ahead of schedule and the bunting isn’t even up, panic sets in. Local publicans, never ones to miss an opportunity, descend into full-blown competition – quite literally chasing their tails to be the first to offer a céad míle fáilte.

What unfolds is a whirlwind of greed, schemes, and comic chaos as the village scrambles to outdo itself and survive the madness.

Imagine Shakespeare locked in a pub, pint in hand and a grudge to settle, and you’re somewhere close. Bar Wars is a bold, irreverent comedy that gleefully pokes fun at theatrical tradition while embracing the absurd. Packed with eccentric characters, outrageous twists, and high-energy slapstick, it captures the spirit of an Irish pub at its most unhinged.

Audiences can expect brawls, belly laughs, and a night of theatre that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Doors open at 7pm and the show begins at 8pm (Strictly no late admittance)
Seating is unassigned; first come, first served. Tickets, €15 (Early Bird) or €18 general admission are on sale at www.jezahel.com.
